MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR tells the tale of Sir John Falstaff, a rotund, cheap, egotistic blowhard of a man, who attempts to ease his drinking debts by courting and swindling the wives of two local gentlemen, and--by doing so--getting into their husband's wallets. Mistress Ford and Mistress Page (the "Merry Wives") turn out, however, to be more than a match for the over-confident knight. Meanwhile, true love blooms between the young Anne Page and young Master Fenton, despite the objections of her parents and the numerous older gentlemen asking for her hand. With slapstick, romance, and a starring role for Shakespeare's most beloved Knight, Merry Wives is a fast-paced farce certain to delight Peterborough audiences this summer!

"The 1950’s seemed perfect," said John Sefel, the show’s director. “The setting has allowed us to give a modern context to the play's plot, without getting in its way or bogging it down - resulting in an accessible and hilarious timeless tale of the battle of the sexes. Merry Wives is the Elizabethan equivalent of a 50’s sitcom; from a Ralph Cramden-esque lead, to a pair of perfectly witty Wilma and Betty Wives; from laundry to laughter, it’s the Shakespearean version of I LOVE LUCY!
