Get ready to rock out to the latest single from BASTARDANE, a band that's making waves in the music scene with its unique sound and an intriguing lineup. But here's where it gets controversial... The band features Castor Hetfield, the son of METALLICA frontman James Hetfield, and while some might expect a certain level of comparison, Castor is determined to forge his own path. In a recent interview, he shared his thoughts on the matter, stating, 'We are our own people and want to cut our own path.'
'Mother's Tongue', the new single produced by GOJIRA frontman Joseph Duplantier, showcases BASTARDANE's musical prowess. The track was recorded at Gatos Trail Recording Studio in California and mixed by Jamie Uertz at Duplantier's Silver Cord Studio. Gavin Lurssen mastered the song at Lurssen Mastering, ensuring a top-notch production quality.
BASTARDANE's lineup also includes Luca Badan on bass and vocals, and Ethan Sirotzki on guitar. The band has already released two albums, 'Is This Rage?' (2022) and 'Catatonic Symphony' (2024), and has been making waves in the music industry. However, the band parted ways with singer Jake Dallas Benn in 2024, with Badan and Hetfield taking over vocal duties.
Castor, who cites bands like CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, OPETH, and TOOL as major influences, is not overly concerned about his father's name being associated with the band. He believes that they are their own people and are not trying to ride off anyone else's success. And he's not the only one in the family with musical talents; two of drummer Lars Ulrich's sons play together in TAIPEI HOUSTON, and bassist Robert Trujillo's son Tye plays bass for OTTTO and SUICIDAL TENDENCIES.
So, what do you think? Is it fair to compare Castor Hetfield's musical endeavors to his father's iconic career? Or should we let the music speak for itself? Share your thoughts in the comments below and let's keep the conversation going!
